Richard L. Yoder, 87, of Elkhart, formerly of Goshen, died Monday, June 19, 2023 at Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born January 31, 1936 in Silver Lake to Jonas and Dorothy (Metzger) Yoder.
On June 24, 1956 he married Marilyn S. Kreis in Silver Lake.
After graduating from Silver Lake High School in 1954 and then Manchester College/University, he worked as a research chemist for Miles, Inc. (Bayer) for 36 years.
He served in the National Guard and Army reserves. Richard also was a volunteer at Camp Alexander Mack in Milford for many years as well as serving many times with the Church of the Brethren Disaster Ministries in various locations.
Richard enjoyed service in the church, gardening, raising sheep for 20 years, woodworking, golf, traveling, and family and friends.
He leaves behind his wife, Marilyn; daughter, Becky Yoder of South Bend; son, Rick (Angela) Yoder of Wakarusa; grandson, Shawn Yoder; step-grandson, Brayden Bitting; a brother, Dan (Jan) Yoder of Claypool; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Yoder, and two sisters, Colleen Helvey Felabom and Sara “Sally” Yoder.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 22, 2023 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. There will also be one hour of visitation prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service Friday, at Elkhart Valley Church of the Brethren, 24955 C.R. 24, Elkhart. Pastor Brad Hardesty will officiate.
Burial will follow at Yellow Creek Cemetery, Goshen.
