Richard "Dick" L. Dubbs, 88, of Goshen, died at his home early Saturday morning, June 7, 2014. He had been in failing health the past eight years. He was born Sept. 27, 1925 in Goshen to Raymon and Vera (Keyser) Dubbs. On June 9, 1973, he married Ruth M. Riedel in Topeka. She survives along with two daughters, Cheryl (Larry) Callan, Elkhart and Cindy (Mike) Fodor, Goshen; three step-children, Robyn (Richard) Buenger, Goshen, Dan Henderson, Roanoke, Va. And Jonathan (Ana) Henderson, Tucson, Ariz; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Velma Detwiler, Spanaway, Wash. and a brother, Larry (Trudy) Dubbs, Goshen. He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Gayte Buenger and a brother, Norman Dubbs. He served with the U.S. Marines during World War II and worked as a supervisor at NIPSCO. He was also a post commander and fire chief for the Topeka Fire Department. Dick was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, the Goshen Amateur Radio Club, the Sunrisers Kiwanis Club, the American Legion and the Swinging Hoosier Squares, a square dancing club. He volunteered as a Boy Scout leader, drove bus for Goshen Community Schools and Bethel College, and helped install lifelines for Goshen General Hospital. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, June 9, 2014, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 10, 2014, funeral service will be conducted at St. Mark's United Methodist Church. Pastor Dick Rinearson will officiate. Cremation will follow the service and burial will be at a later date in Eden Cemetery, Topeka. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Mark's or Goshen Home Care and Hospice.
