Richard L. Groff, 81, of Millersburg, passed away Thursday night, January 29, 2015, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne where he had been the past week. He had been ill since 2009. He was born July 22, 1933 in Clinton Township, Elkhart County to Albert P. H. and Eloise (Chrisman) Groff. On October 19, 1956 he married Nancy E. Virgil in the Burr Oak Church, Ligonier. She survives along with three sons, Tod (Becky) Groff of Royal Center, Ted A. (Amy) Groff of Ligonier and Tad S. (Diane) Groff of Millersburg; six grandchildren, Seth Albert, Ethan Richard, Quinn Samuel, Emma Rose, Cara Helen and Beck Stephen Groff; and a sister, Margaret (Harry) Prough of Goshen. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Jim Groff and two sisters, Helen Willard and Julia Perrin. A Korean War Army veteran, he was a member of Zion Community Church and the Millersburg Legion #484. He was a Fairfield Schools Board member for 16 years. A lifelong resident of Millersburg, Rich farmed for 35 years. He also did maintenance work for Supreme, Rockwood, Carriage and the town of Millersburg. He served as Clinton Township Trustee for 12 years. Friends may call Sunday, February 1, 2015 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and one hour prior to the 10 a.m., funeral service on Monday, February 2, 2015, at Zion Community Church. Pastor Chris Howell will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Brown Cemetery, Millersburg. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Community Church or Brown Cemetery.
