Richard G. Ernsberger, 81, of Goshen, died Tuesday evening, August 3, 2010, at Courtyard Healthcare. He had been in decling health for three years. He was born in Goshen on December 25, 1928, to Jesse and Lucille (Price) Ernsberger. He married Janice A. Swihart on August 19, 1949, in Goshen. She died April 24, 2006. He is survived by two sons, Rick K. (Linda) Ernsberger of Mishawaka, and Terry L. Ernsberger of Goshen; two grandchildren, Candice (Chad Croy) Ernsberger and Casey (Lisa) Ernsberger; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Marcille (Ray) Anderson of Seattle, Washington; and a brother, Dwight (Joan) Ernsberger of Nixa, Missouri. A lifelong Goshen resident, Mr. Ernsberger worked as a model maker in the tool room at Johnson Controls for 41 years before retiring in 1992. He was also a co-owner of Maple City Security. He was an avid bowler for many years. He served with the US Navy from 1946 to 1948 and was a member of the Goshen Moose Lodge; Johnson Controls Retirement Club; Academy of Model Aeronautics; and a life member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. He served on the Goshen Police Reserve for 29 years and as chief for 15 years. He also served as financial secretary of the District Lodge #109 for nine years. Friends may call 2 to 5 Sunday, August 8, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A 1:00 p.m., graveside service will be held at Oakridge Cemetery, Goshen on Monday, August 9, 2010. Friends will meet at the funeral home to leave for the cemetery at 12:40 p.m. Pastor David Stauffer of New Life Church, Osceola, will officiate. Memorials may be made to the F.O.P.
