Richard “Dick” Daniel Cripe, 88, of Syracuse, formerly of Goshen, passed away on March 10, 2023, at Hubbard Hill Healthcare.
He was born in Goshen, on September 30, 1934, to Forrest and Martha (Augsburger) Cripe.
At Goshen High School, Richard enjoyed playing basketball. After graduation from Bluffton University, he served in the Army in Germany until returning home to marry Carolyn Cobb on Easter Sunday in 1959, and they lived in Goshen while they raised their two children, Douglas and Jeannine. He was a member of Eighth Street Mennonite Church, was a Board member of Oaklawn, and served with numerous community organizations.
Richard was the President of Turtle Top, a family-owned business now in its fifth generation of family management. His love of sports continued for many years as he played golf, enjoying many outings with friends and family.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Cripe, his parents, and twin great grandsons.
Richard is survived by two children, Douglas Cripe of Elkhart, and Jeannine (Phillip) Tom of Middlebury; four grandchildren, Shane (Kerry) Tom of Elkhart, Jonathan Cripe of Washington DC, Cassie (Jonathan) Clevenger of Tampa, Florida, and Rebekah (Brian) O’Donnel of O’Fallon, Illinois; one great-granddaughter, Charlotte Clevenger; and a brother Robert (Betty) Cripe of Goshen.
Visitation will occur at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, on Monday, March 13, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. with services by Rev. Brenda Sawatzky Paetkau on Tuesday, March 14, at 1:00 p.m., at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, with visitation one hour preceding the service. Burial will follow at Violett Cemetery, Goshen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eighth Street Mennonite Church or Oaklawn.
