Richard D. Copenhaver, 90, passed away Saturday, October 9 at St. Anne Community Victory Noll.
He was born September 16, 1931 in Goshen to Lawrence Earl and Pearl Mable (Lefevor) Copenhaver.
On January 16, 1954 he married Theresa A. Haines at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
Along with his wife he is survived by five children, Richard (Irene) Copenhaver of Granger and Monica (Kelvin) Detwiler, Angela (Michael) Hein, Mark (Doris) Copenhaver and James (Stephanie) Copenhaver, all of Goshen; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren;
He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Annetta Harrington.
A US Army Veteran, Richard served in Korea as a Military Policeman from 1953 to 1955. He attended St. John’s Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a Master Gardener and created a variegated Hosta hybrid and named it “Theresa” after his wife. He was a member of the Goshen Historical Society; a freelance writer for state travel and an avid supporter of GHS athletics, Notre Dame and Indianapolis Colts fan.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. Rosary at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and Thursday, Oct. 14 from 12:30 p.m. until the 1 p.m. Funeral Mass at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Goshen. Father Royce Gregerson will officiate.
Burial will be at Oakridge Cemetery with military honors.
