Richard “Dick” A. Derstine, 70, of Goshen, died of natural causes on June 5, 2017 at his residence.
He was born April 2, 1947 in Souderton, Pennsylvania to Titus H. and Eva E. (Sell) Derstine.
He is survived by a sister, Ruth Wenger of Akron, Pennsylvania; and nieces, Tonya Wenger, Ann (Jon) Whipple, and Carla (Dennis) Vicidomini; as well as his honorary family, Richard and Patricia Geiser, Christy (Howard) Cordell, and Tracy (Kevin) Paulus. He leaves behind many other loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Mary Ellen Wile; and brother-in-law, Sam Wenger.
Dick was a 1965 graduate of Souderton High School. He moved to Goshen, Indiana in 1968 to attend Goshen College. He worked for Troyer Poultry as their truck driver for many years and then retired from Viking Products.
He was a member of First Brethren Church of New Paris. His hobbies included farming, being a collector, and volunteering his time at the local Republican office. He was a genuine and lovable man that would give you the shirt off his back while, at the same time, argue with you about the color of said shirt. He was a cherished friend that will be missed by many.
Cremation has taken place at Yoder-Culp Crematory, Goshen.
Visitation will be Monday, June 19, 2017, beginning at 10 a.m. at First Brethren Church, New Paris where an 11 a.m. memorial service will be conducted. Pastor Jeff Estep will officiate.
Memorial gifts may be given to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
