Rex M. Maggert, 81, of Goshen, died Wednesday, FEbruary 14, 2018, at his home.
He was born August 23, 1936 in Whitley County to Harvey Maggert and Helen (Waldron) Howbridge.
On November 22, 1961 he married Bonita “Bonnie” Weaver. She died December 5, 2005.
Survivors include three children, Kevin (Janet) Maggert of Mishawaka and Kirk (Jonna) Maggert and Kim (Eric) Mumaw, both of Goshen; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two sisters, Marjorie Bennett of Columbia City and Doris Gross of Tennessee and a sister-in-law, Demaris (Bill) Valjack of Columbia City.
Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Keith Maggert and step-father, Fred Howbridge.
At age 18, Rex contracted and survived polio. He graduated from ACME School of Engineering, South Bend in 1962 with a degree in tool and die design.
Rex retired in 2002 after 38 years at Elkhart Products as a head design engineer.
A generous man, Rex raised beef cattle, gardened and did woodworking, all of which he gifted to others. After Bonnie’s death he began writing, both short stories and his autobiography.
Friends may call Sunday, February 18, 2018 from 1 to 4 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. funeral service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.
Cremation will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Ryan’s Place, ADEC or Loveway.
