Goshen-Raymond Hoover, 90, of Goshen, passed away early Friday morning, August 17, 2012, at Greencroft Healthcare. He had been in declining health the past couple of years. He was born October 19, 1921, in Mansfield, Ohio to Jesse B. and Lucy (Darkwood) Hoover. He married Lura M. Sherman, June 16, 1945 in New Paris. She survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Beth (Fred) Clauser of Berne; a son, John A. (Cindy) Hoover of Sharpsburg, Georgia; a daughter-in-law, Lynn (Larry) Hoover of Detroit, Michigan; a half sister, Sue Ellen (Jack) Reiber of Uniontown, Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Vivian Hoover, a son, Larry D. Hoover, in 2010; and two brothers, Russell H. and Merle W. Hoover. A lifetime resident of the area, Mr. Hoover taught school in Leesburg, Nappanee and at Towncrest Junior High, Goshen. He served 17 years as resident director at Camp Mack and as pastor at Maple Grove Church of the Brethren for seven years. Following his retirement he worked for Choice Books for 13 years. He was a graduate of Manchester College, Goshen College and St. Francis College and attended classes at Bethany Seminary. He was a member of Goshen City Church of the Brethren and Elkhart County Retired Teachers' Association. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 22, 2012, memorial service will be conducted at Goshen City Church of the Brethren with Pastors Bev Weaver and Steve Norton officiating. A private family burial will be in Whitehead Cemetery, New Paris. Memorial contributions may be made to Camp Mack or Goshen City Church of the Brethren.
