Raymond Delagrange, 92, passed away Sunday, Dec. 12, at Goshen Hospital.
Dedicated to my husband, Ray, my partner for 70 years, in discovering the wonders of love, the fullness of life and the glory of God.
I John 4:12 “No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwells in us, and His love is perfected in us.” We found this to be so true! Thank you, Father!
Ray entered this world Dec. 9, 1929, in the home of Victor and Katie Delagrange, on Brush College Road, Woodburn. He was number five of eight children born at this home. Salome, Irvin, Vernon, Martin (deceased at 13), Ray, Velma and Mel (Twin sister Mary passed away at birth).
On May 5, 1951, we (Elma Miller) and Ray were married at the home of Kenneth and Salome Albrecht, in front of the beautiful open stairway, with the two immediate families present. My family was Clarence and Della Miller and brother, Jim.
We lived with his parents a couple of months and then my father became ill, and we came to live with them on the farm where Supreme Corporation is now located and took over the farming for 10 years.
Psalms 128:3 “Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round the table.”
Together we created four wonderful sons, Stanley Ray, Rickey Dean (deceased), Douglas Lynn and Bruce Wayne. The boys brought the girls into our lives, Linda, Carla, Sharon and Mary Ann.
Family Tree
In the center of our “life’s garden”, we gently sowed these four seeds of love. They sprouted and grew from day to day and year to year. We nurtured them with care yet understanding of their needs we gave them room and air…through winter and summer, through sun and rain-filled hours, the seedling reach upward; they branched out and in the center of garden (home) they developed into four great blessings; rooted well in our love – a blessed family tree.
These four added the next generation of miracles, Chad, Julie, Ryan and Nick.
These four have given this garden Ryan and Morgan’s children, Emma, Remington and Lincoln; Nick and Ashley have added Madison and Logan Ray; Julie and CJ have given us Alyssa, Hanna, Christian and Casey; and Chad and Jess have given us Tyler and Ava.
Such sweet memories: the growing-up together days. Yes, with the sunny days were some very bad-weather days. The holidays, the times of cheering them on to victory in their sports and loving them in their defeats of life; the warmth comes from the love and caring- the sweetest family memories are made of sharing these special times together as SHOWERS OF BLESSINGS! Thank you, Father, God!
Ray: a Forever Friend
Through good times and bad times, through glad times and sad times, Ray was always there!
Through up times and through down times, through smile times and frown times, Ray, my special friend will always be carried in my heart!
Proverbs 17:17 “A friend loves at all times…”
I describe our marriage as dancing partners that have learned the intricate and graceful cooperation of two dancers who through long practice have learned to match each other’s movements and moods in response to the music of the spheres.
Private funeral services will be held with a private burial in Miller 8-Square Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be given to The LYNC Program at Jefferson Community Church.
