Ray Charles Swihart

Ray Charles Swihart, 90, of Goshen, passed away at Greencroft Healthcare on November 3, 2021.

He was born March 10, 1931, in Goshen to Earl and Rosemond Swihart.

Ray attended Millersburg High School and North Manchester College where he met Ellen Marie Russell. They were married on April 3, 1953, in Goshen. Ellen survives along with four daughters Linda Swihart of West Lafayette, Carol (Gary) Caviness of Bristol, Sally (Paul Beck) Miller of Syracuse and Susan (Larry) Wilson of Indianapolis; nine grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; siblings, Alice Alvarez of Aibonito, Puerto Rico, Lois Chalfant of Lubbock, Texas and Roy (Carolyn) Swihart of Inverness, Florida.

Ray was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Spencer; sister Ruth Roig; brother Don Swihart; son-in-law Rick Westerman; granddaughter Diana Spencer and great granddaughter Lalany Wynn.

Ray taught high school math and science at Millersburg and Fairfield high schools. Ray was a lifetime member of the Rock Run Church of the Brethren.  Upon retiring Ray and Ellen spent 25 years doing mission and volunteer work for and through the Church of the Brethren.  They spent many summers doing volunteer work at Camp Mack in Milford, Indiana and winters volunteering at the Palms Retirement Center in Sebring, Florida. They spent time in Castaner, Puerto Rico, working at the hospital there.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 7, 2021, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and Monday, November 8, from 10 to 11am at Rock Run Church of the Brethren followed by a celebration of life service at 11:00. Pastor Tim Waits will officiate.

Burial will follow in Rock Run Cemetery,  Goshen.
