Ray Rockenbaugh Jr.

Ray Rockenbaugh, Jr., 88, of Goshen, died Tuesday, Dec. 5.

Ray was born April 22, 1929, to Ray and Elsie (Ganger) Rockenbaugh.

On Aug. 18, 1948, he married Margaret Henrietta Corbin at West Goshen Church of the Brethren.  She died Sept. 1, 2000.

Survivors include a daughter, Sue Cripe, Elkhart; a son, David Rockenbaugh, Evanston, Illinois; a son-in-law, Jim Zeiger; grandchildren, Frank Harringer, Katy Harringer, Justin Rockenbaugh, Angi Lightner, Jimmy Zeiger and Tracie Helmbrecht; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Phyllis Buller, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

In addition to his loving wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Steven Jack Rockenbaugh; a daughter, Jan Sue Zeiger; a sister, Norma Jean Millard; and a granddaughter, Theresa (Miller) Rockenbaugh.

Before retiring, Ray was the director of finance for many years at Goshen Sash and Door as well as the controller for Goshen Home Fabrics, one of Margaret’s successful businesses. During “retirement” Ray volunteered at Susanne’s Kitchen and the Salvation Army, delivered for Meals on Wheels, and tutored youngsters at Ox Bow Elementary School several days a week. He was a member of Dunlap United Methodist Church, Evergreen Singers, Noon Optimist Club and Elkhart County Exchange Club. He had been a choir director and vocal soloist at several churches. Ray was a superb athlete, most recently playing volleyball into his 80s.

Friends and family may call Friday, Dec. 8, from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home in Goshen.  Rev. Jerald E. Turner, Dunlap United Methodist Church, will officiate.

Burial will follow at Sugar Grove Cemetery.
