Goshen

Goshen - Ralph D. “Dave” Garber, 87, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, June 28, 2026, surrounded by the people he loved most.

Born March 12, 1939, in Goshen, Dave was the son of Ralph J. and Blanche Viola (Luke) Garber. On November 26, 1960, he married the love of his life, Carol Carpenter, at Rock Run Church. Together they shared more than 65 years of marriage, building a life rooted in faith, hard work, and unwavering devotion to one another and their family.

Dave was a lifelong farmer whose hands and heart were dedicated to the land. In addition to farming, he worked for New Paris Telephone and GTE, always providing faithfully for his family through diligence and integrity. He was a founding member of the International Harvester Clubs 33 and 7 and the Northeast Steam and Gas Club, proudly restored and collected antique tractors, with a special love for International Harvester equipment. His passion for preserving agricultural history led to countless friendships with fellow collectors across the country.

A man of deep faith, Dave was a devoted member and former deacon of Rock Run Church. His quiet strength, humble spirit, and willingness to serve were evident in every aspect of his life. He found great joy in gospel and bluegrass music, traveling to tractor shows and gatherings, and, above all, spending precious time with his family.

Dave will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Carol Garber; his children, Phillip (Lynn) Garber, Goshen, Cynthia (John) Adam, Goshen, Diane (Tad) Groff, Syracuse, Anita Remmele, Paradise, Texas, and Mark (Lori) Garber, New Paris. He was the proud grandfather of 14 grandchildren and the cherished great-grandfather of 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Mike Garber, Jim (Peg) Garber, and Pete (Deb) Garber, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his great-grandson, Owen Watt; his sister, Prudence Robinson and her husband Chuck; and his sister-in-law, Pamala Garber.

Those who knew Dave will remember his warm smile, steady presence, and genuine interest in everyone he met. Whether sharing stories around a restored tractor, singing along to a favorite gospel hymn, or simply enjoying time with family, he had a way of making others feel welcome and valued. His life was a testament to faith, perseverance, kindness, and love.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Dave's life with visitation from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, July 3, 2026, with Pastors David Hackney and Matt Schoettle officiating. Burial will follow at Rock Run Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Window or Zion Community Church, Millersburg.

Dave leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, friendship, and a love for farming that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he will be deeply missed, his example of a life well lived will remain in the hearts of those who loved him for generations to come.
