Robert Brent Zook, 59, of Goshen, died Thursday afternoon, December 30, 2010, at Goshen General Hospital. He had been ill since October of 2009 with cancer. He was born December 24, 1951 in Elkhart to the late Robert B. and LaNelle (Taggart) Zook and lived all of his life in this area. On May 4, 2002 he married Susan Snyder Sellers at the First Church of God, Goshen. Susan survives with his step-children, Mary (Jason) Bechtel, Kalamazoo, Michigan, Dan (Kim) Rodabaugh and Derek Rodabaugh, both of Elkhart, Summer Sellers, Goshen and Austin Sellers, Portland, Oregon; and foster sister, Linda Smith, Colorado. Brent graduated from Goshen High School in 1970, Indiana University, Bloomington, in 1974, and received his law degree in 1978. He has served as a public defender in Goshen since 1978. He was a member of the American Bar Association, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Indiana Public Defenders Council, and Goshen Amateur Radio Club. In 1990 he received a Gideon Award. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m., Monday, January 3, and 10 a.m.-12 p.m., Tuesday, January 4, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where the Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Officiating will be Cliff Williams, Senior Public Defender and Sandy Swartzendruber, President of Goshen Radio Club. Burial will be at Violett Cemetery following cremation of his body. Memorial contributions may be made to Goshen Amateur Radio Club.
