She was a faithful contributor to the churches to which her family belonged, beginning at Shore Mennonite Church in Shipshewana. Ezra and Sue were in a group of families that started Community Mennonite Church in Harrisonburg, VA, that made small groups an important element in the life of the church. She taught Sunday School and summer Bible School. They attended Aurora Mennonite Church near Kent, Ohio while Ezra was getting his doctorate.
