Phyllis L. Vandegrift, 82, of Goshen, died early Monday morning, March 4, 2013, at Rivercrest Specialty Hospital, Mishawaka. She had been in failing health. She was born August 28, 1930 in Elkhart to Mervin and Irma (Miller) Kaufman. She is survived by three sons, Rick (Susan) of Wakarusa, Randy (Karla) of Maineville, Ohio, and Mark (Laurie) Vandegrift of Ada, Michigan; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Merlene Parse of Goshen; a brother, Loren (Marilyn) Kaufman of Lake Placid, Florida, a niece, Diana (Jon "Mick") Stump of Goshen and a nephew, Tom, (Faith) Parse of Kealakekua, Hawaii. A 1948 graduate of Topeka High School, Phyllis retired in 1994 from Miles/Bayer Laboratories where she worked as an administrative assistant and also typed scientific papers for book publication. She had also worked at Keene Metal Products and Goshen Rubber. A member of Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church, she was a charter member of Parents without Partners #64 and served as treasurer from 1966-70. She also served as a board member of the Goshen Rubber Credit Union. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a 10 a.m., Friday, March 8, 2013, funeral service will be held. Pastor Harold Knight of Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be given to the National Kidney Foundation of Indiana.
