Phyllis J. Stout, 80, of Goshen, was called home to Heaven unexpectedly, Wednesday, May 5, 2021. She took her final earthly breath surrounded by her beloved and loving family.
She was born April 29, 1941 in Coldwater, Michigan to Garald G. and Arlene J. (Heltzel) Merriman.
On Nov. 18, 1962 she married Dale O. Stout at Pleasant Hill Church, Bronson, Michigan.
He survives along with a son, Tim (Lisa) Stout of Bristol; a daughter, Becky (Steve) Schlabach of Goshen; four grandchildren, Amanda Sherman, Amy (Franklin Bo) Ennis, Erica (Jordan) Mundy and Michael Schlabach; 11 great-grandchildren, Cody and Cayden Sherman, Anastasia, Maximus, Chloe, Azriella, Brielle, Moriah, and Josiah Ennis, and Asher and Elliana Mundy; and a brother, Rev. Garald “Glen” Merriman of Oregon.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Gropp.
Mrs. Stout was an active member of Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church, where she participated in Women’s Ministries and helped in the nursery. She was also involved with “His Helping Hands” ministry at Zion Missionary Church, Elkhart.
Phyllis was a member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed being in nature, camping, sewing, reading, doing puzzles; and especially loved time with family.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 9, 2021 from 4 to 7 p.m., at Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church, 61115 S. R. 15, Goshen. There will also be one hour of visitation from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service, Monday, May 10, 2021 at the church. Pastor Matt Maloney will officiate.
Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery, Goshen.
