Phyllis J. Sherck, 87, Goshen, died Sat., Oct. 14 at Greencroft Healthcare, Goshen.
She was born Jan. 18, 1930 in Goshen to Ned D. Wortinger and Waneda A. Raifsnider.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara J. Igney, Goshen; two sons, Michael M. (Linda) Sherck, Davidson, North Carolina and Thomas L. Sherck, Rancho Mirage, California; four grandchildren, Todd S. (Ashley) Igney, Bristol, Troy S. (Shannon) Igney, St. Louis, Missouri, Lauri M. (Ryan) McDaniels, Cornelius, North Carolina and Steven M. (Rebecca) Sherck, Charlotte, North Carolina; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard E. Cox, Middlebury; a sister, Mary M. Garber, Mesquite, Texas; and lifelong friend, Janice Wortinger, Goshen.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her step-father who raised her, Grover “Swede” Vanette; a granddaughter, Kelly Igney; brothers, Michael Wortinger, Robert Cox and Patrick Wortinger; sisters, Marvel Mehl and Shirley M. Davis; and a son-in-law, Bertram Farber.
She was a 1948 Goshen High School graduate and member of the Middlebury Church of the Brethren. Along with raising her family she worked for close to 18 years retiring from Syndicate Store Systems, Middlebury.
Phyllis was an avid reader and enjoyed watching television. Quality time with family and friends was especially valued.
According to her wishes, cremation will take place at Yoder-Culp Crematory, Goshen.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
