Phyllis Jean Metzger, 88, formerly of Dewart Lake, Syracuse, died Monday morning, October 3, 2011, at Largo Rehabilitation Center, Largo, Florida. She was born in Goshen on June 28, 1923, to the late George and Wilma (Weaver) Prough. She married Jesse E. Metzger on September 4, 1948 in Angola. He died August 5, 2007. She is survived by two grandsons, Tom Coy of Millersburg, and Ron Coy of Largo, Florida; a great-granddaughter, Kea Coy; and two nieces, Susie Homes of Goshen,and Linda (Carl) Miller of Syracuse. She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Coy in 1993 and a sister, Audrey Wisler. A lifetime area resident, Mrs. Metzger moved to St. Petersburg in August to Bristol Court, an assisted living center where her grandson, Ron is director. A member of the Plymouth United Church of Christ, Goshen, she was also a member of the Women's Auxiliary at the American Legion, Milford. She worked in the Wawasee High School cafeteria for 16 years. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, October 6 at the funeral home. A 10 a.m., Friday, October 7, 2011, funeral service will be held at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Hicks, Plymouth United Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to Goshen Cancer Center or to Alzheimer's Research.
