Phyllis J. Copenhaver, 92, of Elkhart, passed into the arms of her Savior, surrounded by her family at her home on Tuesday, December 5, 2017.
She was born October 4, 1925 in Milford to Ross Randolph and Edith Mae (Stout) Timmons.
On December 12, 1942 she married Leonard Copenhaver. He died April 29, 2009.
Survivors include three children, Brenda (Lee) Hostetler of Goshen and Wendy (Tom) Labrum and Dave (Karla) Copenhaver, both of Elkhart; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Donnabelle Yoder of Syracuse; and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Shirley Timmons.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Lisa Michelle Young and Jered David Copenhaver; five brothers, Robert, Leroy, Richie, Herbert and Donald Timmons and five sisters, Mary Saal, Mildred Shafer, Francis Armey, Dorothea Stutzman and Carolyn Timmons.
A lifelong area resident, Mrs. Copenhaver worked at Switches, Lords, Klines, Newberry’s and Meredith’s where she taught quilting and sewing classes. She retired from Joann Fabrics.
She was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Goshen.
There will be no visitation. A Saturday, December 16, 2017 memorial service will be start at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. Pastor Shirley Fox of New Testament Church, Elkhart will officiate.
A private interment of cremated remains will be at Violett Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be given to Elkhart County Humane Society.
