Phillip E. Coy, 72, of Goshen, died Thursday, October 29, 2020 at home.
He was born March 31, 1948 in Goshen.
On June 20, 1970 he married Sandra Scheidel in Goshen.
She survives along with a daughter, Daphne Coy of Goshen; a son, David Coy of New Paris; and three grandchildren, Alexandra, Ellis and Braeley Coy.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene C. Coy; his mother, Mary W. (Belt) Coy; and two grandchildren, Jadelyn and Hudson Coy.
A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Coy served in the 11 th Armored Calvary Division during Vietnam. He received a purple heart and three bronze stars for his service.
Phil owned and operated Phil’s Garage in New Paris for many years and retired from Cardinal Buses, Inc., Middlebury, where he worked as a mechanic. He enjoyed NASCAR racing, trains, classic cars, especially restoring his 1957 Chevy over the last 30 years, and was a member of the local Toy Club.
Phil loved and appreciated his family, especially his grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday, November 2, 2020 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, 1911 S. Main St., Goshen.
A 10 a.m., Tuesday, November 3, funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home. Rev. Jason Rohde, Nappanee Missionary Church, will officiate.
The family requests anyone in attendance to follow the Elkhart County mandate by wearing a mask and observe physical distancing.
Burial will follow at Elkhart Prairie Cemetery, Goshen.
