Phillies R. Stern, 83, of Goshen, died Thursday, May 9, 2019, at Greencroft Healthcare.

She was born May 8, 1936 in Conway, Kansas to Aaron T. and Mathilda (Ratzlaff) Willems,

On August 26, 1958 she married Roy L. Stern in McPherson, Kansas.

He survives along with daughters, Roya (Joe Spencer) Stern of East Grand Rapids, Michigan and Tonja (Jeff) Stern-Gilbert of Elkhart; a son, Phillip (Julie) Stern of Winchester, Massachusetts; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings, Calvin Willems and Erletta Weyand.

She studied at McPherson College and worked as a preschool teacher at Head Start.  She also worked with special needs children.

Phillies was a member of Goshen City Church of the Brethren and had a great love for Camp Mack, Milford, where she volunteered for many years as a camp counselor, camp director and board member.

Visitation will be Saturday, June 15, 2019 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Goshen City Church of the Brethren followed by an 11 a.m. memorial service.  Pastor Bev Weaver will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be given to Camp Mack or Goshen City Church of the Brethren.
