Philip W. Meek, 78, of Goshen, the family's "hero", went to see Jesus on Friday, January 10, 2014 at 7:25am in his home with his loving family by his side. Phil was born in Syracuse on January 26, 1935 to Roy and Ruth (Stout) Meek and was the youngest of three boys. He was preceded in death by his parents; his eldest brother, Gary; and is survived by his brother, Edwin and wife, Louise, who live in Goshen. In high school, Phil was a disciplined athlete lettering in basketball, track and field, and softball at Syracuse High School. After graduation in 1953, he went into the Brethren Voluntary Service where he learned the trade of printing. He continued his training at a printing college in Baltimore, Maryland, before returning to Elkhart where he served as the Manager of Printing for CROP (Christian Rural Overseas Program). His gift for attention to detail was a perfect match for the printing trade, in which he served for 45 years. In 1961, Phil married Mary Lou Kauffman and they were blessed with three children, Lynette (David) Johnson, Steve (Teri) Meek, and Karla (Don) Najita. Phil's legacy continues in three beautiful grandchildren; Judah Meek and Lily and Jack Najita. During his retirement, Phil loved to play golf and bowling on the Nintendo wii, even scoring a perfect 300 game. He passed his passion for sport on to his grandchildren. Even in his last days, Poppy, as the grandkids called him, enjoyed watching his grandchildren play the wii. Friends and family may call from 2-5pm Sunday, January 12, 2014, and one hour prior to the 3 p.m. funeral service Monday, January 13, 2014, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Phil's name to Center for Hospice Care, Elkhart or Heifer International
