Peter Novachenko, Sr., 96, of Elkhart, died Thursday, August 16, 2018 at Miller’s Merry Manor, Wakarusa. His health had been declining over the last 9 weeks.
Peter was born to Simon and Vaselisa (Obozna) Novachenko in the Ukraine on March 3, 1922. In 1945 he married Olga Forostiana, she preceded him in death on February 2, 2000. In 1961 Peter moved with his family to Elkhart County, living in both Elkhart and Goshen.
Peter worked as the owner and operator of A.P. Motor, Elkhart, a popular Jaguar and MG dealership. His church membership belonged to the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Goshen. He was an important member of the church choir and he also served many years as an Elder.
He is survived by his daughter, Nancy (Fred Hachinski) Novachenko; two daughters-in-law, Lori and Nelya Novachenko; five grandchildren, Vanessa, Peter, Mike, Nestor, Solomia; and three great-grandchildren, James, Stephanie, and Sydney.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Tamara Wright; two sons, Peter and William Novachenko; a brother, Alexander Novak; and a sister, Nadja.
A Panychida service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 24 at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 61314 C.R. 21, Goshen. A 10 a.m. funeral service will be held at the church on Saturday, August 25, with visitation starting at 9 a.m. Father Rolando Silouan will officiate.
Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery, Goshen.
