Pearl Rigby Alexander, 93, Orlando, Florida, died Sunday afternoon, March 14, 2010, at Lake Bennett Health & Rehab Center, Ocoee, Florida. She was born in Goshen on May 14, 1916, to Dennis C. and Viola (Darkwood) Rigby. She married Albert “Jake” Alexander on December 15, 1946 in Goshen. He preceded her in death on May 21, 1974. A 1934 graduate of Goshen High School, Mrs. Alexander served in the US Navy as a Navy Wave machinist mate 2nd class from 1943-45. While in Goshen she was a member of Goshen City Church of the Brethren. She worked as a telephone operator in both Goshen and Fort Wayne. Mrs. Alexander moved to Florida in 1979 and worked as a PBX operator until her retirement at the age of 81. She was also an Avon representative. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Orlando. Friends may call 10 to 11 am, Saturday, March 20, 2010, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where an 11:00 a.m., funeral service will be conducted. Graveside services with military honors will be in Oakridge Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Cancer Society.
