Paul “Gene” Bitting, 86, of Goshen, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017, at Courtyard Healthcare.
He was born April 16, 1931 in Bourbon to Ralph and Opal (Spindler) Bitting.
On January 1, 1950 he married Marilyn Ruth Crane in Winona Lake. She died Sept. 30, 2014.
He is survived by four daughters, Susan (Dana) Mathews of New Paris, Peggy (Jody) Hartman of Goshen, Kathy Collins of Goshen and Ruth (Ray) Whitehead of New Paris; four sons, Douglas Bitting of Syracuse, James (Kim) Bitting of Goshen, Steven Bitting of San Antonio, Texas and John (Dyana) Bitting of Elkhart; two brothers, James Bitting of Naples, Florida and Herbert Bitting of Pendelton, Oregon; 51 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by two children, Terri Lee Bitting and Paul Michael Bitting; two grandchildren, Eric Lee Worthman and Lindsay Whitehead; and a daughter-in-law, Chris Bitting.
A farmer, Gene also worked for and retired from Yoder Manufacturing and Carriage Inc.
He was an active member of LifePoint Church. Gene and Marilyn enjoyed singing together and Gene was known for leading singing at the various churches they attended. Gene was an avid Cubs fan and was thrilled to watch them win the World Series last year.
Friends may call Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, funeral at LifePoint Church. Pastor Troy Scott will officiate.
Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery.
Memorial gifts may be given to World Missionary Press, New Paris.
