Paul E. Bushong, 93, of Goshen, died late Thursday evening, December 27, 2007, at Greencroft Healthcare. He was born in Syracuse, Indiana, on May 4, 1914, to Clinton and Ethel (Ott) Bushong. He married Verna Shank on December 9, 1935, in Garrett, Indiana. She survives. A 1932 graduate of Syracuse High School, Mr. Bushong attended Notre Dame for two years. He was an Industrial Engineer and Plant Manager at ILC in Elkhart until his retirement in 1979. He served as Town Manager and Clerk/Treasurer of Wakarusa for four years, until 1995. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Wakarusa, a past president of the Indiana Dunes Airstream Club, Caring Citizens of Wakarusa, and a former 4-H leader. He is survived by his wife, Verna; five daughters, Delores (Richard) Dunlap of Arlington, Texas, Judith (Daniel) Walter of Goshen, Mary (David) McCreary of Wakarusa, and Susan (Jeffrey) Burnworth and Cynthia (James) Mattern, both of Nappanee; a son, Charles (Becky) Bushong of Elkhart; 24 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Doris Harbour of Syracuse; and a step-sister, Winifred Krauser of Elkhart. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Hayes; two step-brothers; and a step-sister. Friends may call 2 to 6 p.m., Sunday, December 30, at the funeral home. An 11:30 a.m., Monday, December 31, 2007, funeral service will be held at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Rev. Brooks Henry of the Bible Baptist Church, Wakarusa will officiate. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or Lymphoma Research.
