Ora D. Weirich

August 30, 1929 — January 14, 2020

Ora D Weirich entered his eternal home, Tuesday, January 14, 2020, at Elkhart Place, Elkhart. Elkhart Place had been his home since March 2019. He was born August 30, 1929, in Shipshewana to Daniel and Elizabeth (Kauffman) Weirich.  He attended Shipshewana School through the 9 th grade. At the age of 65 he got his GED.

On April 10, 1952, Ora married Katherine Beechy in Topeka. After almost 67 years of marriage Katherine passed away on February 7, 2019.

Ora farmed in the Shipshewana the first few years of marriage. They then moved to Topeka area where he worked at the Feed Mill. In 1965 they moved to Shipshewana where Ora worked as a butcher and later a manager at Miller’s IGA.  After moving to Goshen in 1973 he worked as a bookkeeper at Goshen Supply and then ended up at his dream job, managing Goshen Mini Storage on Wilden Avenue.  He was 86 years old when he retired.

Ora loved serving various roles at the churches he was attending at the time. He was treasurer, elder, worship team member, etc.at different times at Townline Mennonite Church, Maple City Chapel, Zion Chapel, and The Oasis. He was a member of River of Life Community Church, Elkhart where he was on the Board of Directors and a greeter.

He started playing guitar at a young age until his stroke that caused left sided weakness in 2018. He also loved to draw and design signs. He devoted his life to his wife, family and serving God. He also loved to read and be on his computer.

Preceding him in death along with his wife are his parents, siblings, Harry, Joe, Eli, Harley, Katie Weirich, Ida Miller, Nona Yoder, grandson, Austin Weirich, great grandchildren Jenna Miller, and Lucas Piekunka.

Surviving are his children Gloria (Marion) Miller, Kenneth (Miriam) Weirich, Goshen, Keith (Leslie) Weirich, Middlebury, Sharon (Earl) Plett, Landmark, Manitoba, Canada, Carol (James) Piekunka, Goshen, grandchildren Adrian (Jodi) Miller, Zionsville, Derek (Amy) Miller, Chicago, Landon (Karen) Miller, Alhambra, CA, Shaunda Miller, Culver City, CA, Jennifer(Nelson) Bontrager, Goshen, Jeremy (Allison) Weirich, Goshen, Julie (Jake) Stutzman, Syracuse, Jeffrey (Kendra) Weirich, Goshen, Hannah Weirich, Marion, Katherine (Paul) Bingham, Minnewaukan, North Dakota, Trenton (Naomi) Plett, Elkhart, KJ (Hayley) Plett, Elkhart, Matthew (Meg) Piekunka, Lafayette, Crystal (Joshua) Hayes, Sanford FL, 24 great grandchildren, and sister Anna Chupp, Shipshewana.

Ora will be remembered for his passion to share the Gospel with others, his integrity and his sense of humor.

Viewing will be Friday, January 17, 2020 from 2-5 and 6-8 at Yoder Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, Indiana. Private family burial will take place Saturday morning, January 18, 2020 followed by a 2 pm Memorial Service at River of Live Community Church, Elkhart.

Memorial contributions may be given to River of Life Community Church, Elkhart.
