Opal Eileen Harper

August 27, 1920 — July 20, 2011

Opal Eileen Harper, 90, of Naperville, Illinois, passed away Wednesday afternoon, July 20, 2011 at Westbury Care Center, Lisle, Illinois. She had been in declining health. She was born August 27, 1920 in Kokomo, Indiana, to the late Gilbert and Gloria (Patterson) Walker. She married Charles E. Harper on September 11, 1938 in Peru. He died May 19, 1999. She is survived by a daughter, Marcia (Tim) Emmitt of Naperville, Illinois; a granddaughter, Stephanie Valatkas of Aurora, Illinois; and two great-grandchildren Michaela and Payton. She was preceded in death by a son, Mark Edward Harper on October 17, 1969. A Goshen resident from 1952 to 1980, when she and her husband retired to Florida, Mrs. Harper graduated from Kokomo High School in 1938. she was a member of the First Congregational Church of Christ, the Eastern Star and she volunteered at Goshen Hospital. She also enjoyed playing bridge and golf while residing in Goshen. Friends may call 11 to 1 p.m., Saturday, August 6, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 6, 2011, graveside service will be conducted at Violett Cemetery, Goshen. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Feeding America (formerly America's Second Harvest) or The Salvation Army.
