Oneta B. Gardner, 101, of Goshen, died peacefully with her family by her side, Tuesday night, October 4, 2016 at IU Health Goshen Hospital.
She was born November 3, 1914 in Middlebury to Harry and Minnie (Miller) Kalb.
On August 28, 1938 she married Charles V. Gardner at Silver Street Mennonite Church in Middlebury. They were married 56 years before his death July 30, 1995.
Survivors include three daughters, Ruthann M. (George) Brunk and Susan G. (Ben) Nelson, both of Goshen, and Judith G. (Stephen) Ainlay of Schenectady, New York; a son, Thomas C. (Beth) Gardner of Ft. Wayne; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and a great-great granddaughter.
Along with her husband she was preceded in death by all of her siblings; Orly, Orville, Oscar, Otis, Olin, Olive Yoder, Othney Miller, Osie Hochstetler, Opal Miller and Oma Hershberger.
A lifelong area resident, Oneta was a loving homemaker and member of College Mennonite Church. She was an active volunteer for the church and Meals on Wheels. An accomplished hostess she enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends. An avid game player, she bowled and golfed into her 90’s and enjoyed playing games with friends and her grandchildren at every opportunity.
Friends may call Sunday, October 9, 2016 from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Koinonia Room at College Mennonite Church, Goshen. The funeral service will be held Monday, October 10, 2016 at 9 a.m. in the Koinonia Room at College Mennonite Church. Pastor Ron Kennel will officiate.
A family burial will follow at Forest Grove Cemetery, Middlebury.
