Omer Jay “O.J.” Yoder, 66, of Elkhart died Friday, September 2, 2022 at Majestic Care of Goshen.
He was born January 27, 1956 in Goshen to Chris W. and Sadie W. (Yoder) Yoder.
On June 4, 1994 he married Rebecca (Thompson) Perkey in Elkhart. She died January 22, 2017.
Survivors include step-children, Dawn (George) Cook of Mottville, Michigan, Richard Rondot and Timothy Rondot, both of Elkhart; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are three sisters, Lydia Bontrager of Sarasota, Florida, Esther (Dennis) Alwine of Goshen and Karen (George) English of Dallas, Georgia; a brother, Perry (Joyce) Yoder of Marietta, South Carolina; brother-in-law, Clifford (Sheri) Thompson of Elkhart; and three sisters-in-law, Sharon Yoder of Elkhart, Glenda Varga of Alabama and Peggy (Steven) Foust of Aurora, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Allen Yoder.
O.J. was connected to Silverwood Mennonite Church and worked as a metal fabricator for many years. He was an avid Harley motorcyclist and member of ABATE. O.J. enjoyed traveling and was a proficient artist and woodworker.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 7, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. There will also be an hour of visitation Thursday, prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service, at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at Violett Cemetery at a later date.
