Omer L. Nisley, 82, of Port Orange, Florida and formerly of Elkhart County, died Saturday night, November 26, 2016 at his home
in Port Orange
.
He was born August 8, 1934 in Elkhart County to Ray and Cora (Slabaugh) Nisley.
He was married to Elizabeth Diller and had two daughters. They divorced in 1973
On September 24, 1976 he married Idamae Woods at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Goshen.
He is survived by two daughters, Elaine (Kevin) Kinion of Port Orange, Florida and
Evelyn (Mark) Stone of Austin, Texas; three grandchildren, Christopher Kinion of Texas, Kenneth Kinion of Georgia and Kathleen Kinion of Florida;
a step-daughter, Linda (Pat) Harrington of Elkhart; six step-sons, Douglas (Cathy) Everingham of Wichita, Kansas, Stephen (Linda) Everingham of Rolling Prairie, Ron (Pam) Everingham of Goshen, Phil (Mary) Everingham of Elkhart, Richard (Kim) Everingham of Goshen and Greg (Carola) Everingham of Sheridan, Illinois; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren, and a great great granddaughter; three sisters, Edna Krull of Goshen, Doris (Gene) Grable of Churubusco and Ruthann (Jack) Hertig of Elkhart; and a brother, John Nisley of Lexington, Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Idamae; his parents; and step-mother, Cleo Nisley.
A graduate of Topeka High School, Omer
earned his Bachelor’s degree at Bluffton College and his Master of Divinity at Mennonite Biblical Seminary.
Later in his life he was ordained as a minister in the United Methodist Church. He was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Goshen, Goshen Masonic Lodge and Kiwanis Sunriser’s Club. After his move to Florida in 2013 he regularly attended Covenant United Methodist Church in Port Orange and was active in many church activities.
As a pastor, he served many congregations, including Richville Methodist Church in Ligonier, Brimfield Methodist, Valparaiso Methodist, and Hannah Methodist Church.
He also worked in sales and marketing for LE Johnson Products, Inc., Elkhart.
Visitation will begin Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 9 a.m. at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 502 North Main Street, Goshen followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service.
Burial will be at Oakridge Cemetery, Goshen.
