Olin D. Miller, 79, of Goshen died early Tuesday morning, February 17, 2015 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. He was born in Middlebury on July 6, 1935 to Dan R. and Katie J. (Schrock) Miller. He and Anita Byram were united in marriage by Pastor Dick Hamlin on February 1, 1975 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Phoenix, Arizona. He is survived by his wife, Anita, and two children; a daughter, Katherine S. Miller of Corpus Christi, Texas; a son, Daniel O. (Julia) Miller of Orangevale, California; a grandson, Jasper Miller; and a brother, Ora M. (Anita) Miller of Goshen. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Lydia Hershberger, Viola Miller, and an infant sister; and four brothers, Levi, Menno, Mahlon and Melvin Miller. Mr. Miller was a Korean War veteran. After his discharge from the United States Army he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the Indiana Institute of Technology. He worked for Sperry Gyroscope Company providing product support to airline customers in Western Europe and the Middle East. In 1963 he returned to the U.S. and worked for Sperry Flight Systems/Honeywell Aero Space, designing aircraft automatic pilot systems until retiring in 1995. He was an accredited horticulture judge and also volunteered as a Master Gardener with the University of Arizona. He contributed articles to the Arizona Republic newspaper, Phoenix Home and Garden magazine, and the Gardener magazine. He also answered desert horticulture and gardening questions on the University of Arizona's Q & A forum throughout his retirement. After living in the Phoenix area for 50 years Olin and Anita moved to Goshen in 2013 where they are members at Faith Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, February 20, 2015 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and one hour prior to the 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 21, 2015 funeral service at Faith Lutheran Church, Greene Road, Goshen. Interment will follow at Adamsville Cemetery, Edwardsburg, Cass County, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be given to Faith Lutheran Church.
