Norman M. Schweickart, 86, of Goshen, died Friday morning, September 4, 2009, at the home of his son, Jim, where he had been the last four months. He was born in Toledo, Ohio, on May 8, 1923, to George and Minta (Vail) Schweickart.  He married Ann Cress on March 31, 1945 in Quantico, Virginia.  She preceded him in death on October 17, 1985. A 56 year Goshen resident, he was a sergeant with the Elkhart County Sheriff Department and an Elkhart County Bailiff and Probation Officer.  He was also a Goshen News Sports Editor and along with his wife, Ann, owned and operated Hobby Hill Ceramic Shop. Following high school graduation, Mr. Schweickart attended Oberlin College and Ohio Wesleyan College.  He served with the US Marines as a 2nd Lieutenant during World War II and as an Infantry Training Officer in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.  He was an avid golfer; a Cubs fan and a life member of the Goshen American Legion and DAV. He is survived by a son, Jim (Debbie) Schweickart of Grabill, Indiana; a daughter, Linda (Phillip) Swihart of Colorado Springs, Colorado; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, LaDonna (John) Radu of Riverview, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his wife and an infant son, Kim Schweickart in 1951. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, September 7 and from 10 to 11 a.m., Tuesday at the funeral home. An 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 8, 2009, funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  Rev. Louis Showers will officiate.  Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen, where  Military Graveside Honors will be given by Goshen Veterans Organizations. Memorial contributions may be made to World Team Missions for Chad and Kim Deakyne, 1437 Stuckert Road, Warrington, PA   18976.
