Noble I. Frederick

Noble I. Frederick, 100, of Goshen, died Friday morning, June 26, 2009, at Greencroft Healthcare. He was born in Nappanee, Indiana, on February 4, 1909, to Charles Franklin and Nettie Elizabeth (Hoffer) Frederick.  He married Grace Bowers on June 21, 1936 in the Union Center Church of the Brethren, Nappanee.  She died February 28, 2008. A lifetime resident in northern Indiana, Mr. Frederick moved to Goshen in April 2001 from South Bend where he had lived for more than 50 years.  Mr. Frederick attended Manchester College and graduated from Goshen College.  He earned a masters degree from the University of Michigan.  An educator, Mr. Frederick worked 46 years as an elementary school teacher and principal in the South Bend schools.  He had been very active in the Crest Manor Church of the Brethren, South Bend.  As a young adult, he enjoyed fishing and participating in sports, especially baseball and basketball.  In his later years he enjoyed gardening and canning his homegrown pickles. Mr. Frederick is survived by a daughter, Lynda Joan Morley of Nashville, Tennessee; a daughter-in-law, Pamela Frederick of South Bend; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, infant Charles Frederick and Thomas Frederick in December 1999; three sisters, Uretha, Myrtle and Gleta; and two brothers, Lowell and Leonard. Friends may call 1 to 2 p.m., Sunday, June 28, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a 2:00 p.m., funeral service will be conducted.  Pastor Larry Fourman of Union Center Church of the Brethren will officiate. Burial will be in Union Center Cemetery, Nappanee. Memorial contributions may be given to Friends of Thomas N. Frederick Juvenile Justice Center, South Bend.
