Nellie I. Swoveland, 87, of Goshen, died suddenly Thursday morning, February 18, 2010, at her daughter's home. She was born in Goshen on February 6, 1923, to the late Harvey and Lydia (Hostetler) Harshberger.  She married Grover E. Swoveland on January 14, 1946 in Goshen.  He preceded her in death on November 8, 2003. A lifetime area resident, Mrs. Swoveland was a member of the Goshen City Church of the Brethren and attended Jefferson Brethren Church, Goshen; and was a former member of the Goshen Moose.  She enjoyed bowling.  She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She also enjoyed gardening. She had worked at Johnson Controls, Goshen; Maley's and Alco dime stores and cleaned houses for Bill Long and Associates. She is survived by three daughters, Elaine Sheets, Kathleen (Douglas) Love and Carolyn (Larry) McKibbin, all of Goshen; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Elsie Straw and Louise Yoder, both of Goshen. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Charlene Gay on April 3, 1952 (twin of Kathleen); a son, Devon R. Swoveland on May 2, 2002; five brothers, Leo, Wilbur, Marion, Glenn and Edward Harshberger; and a sister, Rosemary Vorhis. Friends may call 1 to 5 p.m., Sunday, February 21, and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home. An 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 22, 2010, funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Spyker of Jefferson Brethren Church and  Timothy Yoder of Goshen City Church of the Brethren officiating. Burial will follow in West Goshen Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or Center for Hospice and Palliative Care.
