Nellie Vesta Loucks, 104, of Elkhart, died early Thursday morning, March 2, 2006, at the home of her daughter. She was born March 31, 1901 in Wakarusa, Indiana, to Rev. Levi and Alice (Madlem) Weldy. On November 2, 1920 she married George Loucks in Wakarusa. He died April 1, 1971. A life long resident of the area, she had been a member of the First Brethren Church, Goshen, since 1937. She was a former deaconess at the church. Mrs. Loucks had worked at the Wakarusa Post Office, and for Sherman White Produce in Goshen. She was also secretary and custodian at the First Brethren Church, Goshen. She is survived by two daughters, Arlene Zentz of Columbus, Ohio, and Melba Benedict of Elkhart, Indiana; 11 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 59 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Janette Lacy; four brothers, Orin, Orville, Aden and Allen Weldy; and two sisters, Edna Bender and Elsie Smith. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, March 3, and 9 to 11 a.m., Saturday, March 4, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. An 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 4, 2006, funeral service will be held at the funeral home. Pastor John Drexler of the First Brethren Church, Goshen and retired minister, Dr. Charles Munson will officiate. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorials may be made to the First Brethren Church Missionary Board or Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc.
