Ned R. Miller, 85, of Goshen, Indiana, died peacefully at his residence on Sunday, January 25, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Ned was born on January 31, 1940, in Goshen to E. Alvin and Mabel (Helmuth) Miller. On October 24, 1959, he married the love of his life, Viola (Gingerich) Miller, at Clinton Frame Church. Together they shared 66 devoted years of marriage built on faith, friendship, and unwavering love.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Viola; four daughters, Kim (Larry) Crilow of Goshen, Kaylene (Laverne) Yoder of New Paris, Kristine Erb of Millersburg, and Karmen (Lydell) Troyer of Goshen; 11 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Marilyn Miller of Topeka.
Ned worked faithfully as a bookkeeper and was a lifetime member of Clinton Frame Church. In recent years, he and Viola also attended Sarasota Community Church. He had a deep appreciation for warm weather and looked forward each year to spending the winter months in Sarasota, Florida. There, he enjoyed daily walks and bike rides, including his cherished annual birthday tradition of riding his age in miles — a tradition he proudly continued through his 75th birthday.
When indoors, Ned could often be found in his woodshop, always creating or fixing something. He especially loved crafting handmade Christmas gifts for each member of his family, including ornaments, stools, bookshelves, and personalized carvings of everyone’s initials. These thoughtful creations remain treasured keepsakes.
Above all, Ned’s life was marked by his steadfast faith and the example he set as a Christ-follower, husband, and father. He had a profound love for the Lord and frequently used his musical talents to bring Him glory. In his younger years, he was a member of the Messenger Men Quartet and faithfully served on church worship teams and in the chorus.
Ned and Viola were inseparable throughout their years together. Whether playing cards or working daily word puzzles side by side, they kept each other sharp and shared life closely. To many they were known simply as “Ned and Vi,” and to some affectionately as “NedVi,” a reflection of how naturally they belonged together.
Though he will be deeply missed, Ned’s legacy of faith, love, and devotion will live on in the hearts of his family and friends for generations to come.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, January 28, from 2–4 p.m. and 6–8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 29, at 10 a.m., with one hour of visitation prior to the service at Clinton Frame Church. Burial will follow at Clinton Union Cemetery.
