Naomi Whitacre Waggy

Naomi Whitacre Waggy, 85, of Goshen, died Monday morning, July 22, 2009, at her home. She was born in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, on July 20, 1924, to the late Joseph E. and Bertha (Fike) Whitacre.  She married Arlie E. Waggy on December 24, 1947, in Petersburg, West Virginia.  He survives. She graduated from Manchester College in 1947 and from Ball State in 1979 with a Masters in Education.  An elementary school music teacher, Mrs. Waggy taught in North Manchester for two years and for 16 years in the Goshen Community Schools, retiring in 1981. She was a member of the Goshen City Church of the Brethren where she had served as a deacon.  She was also a member of the National Education Association, the Indiana State Teachers’ Association, the Elkhart County Retired Teachers’ Association, the Home Arts Club, and the Fellowship of Reconciliation.  She volunteered for Heifer Project International. She is survived by her husband; three sons, Sherwood A. Waggy of Morris Plains, New Jersey, Norman S. (Carol) Waggy of Goshen, and Loren D. (Deanna) Waggy of South Bend; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and five sisters, Lois Clark of South Bend, Grace Davis of Salunga, Pennsylvania, Joyce Bohn of Lancaster Pennsylvania, Eunice Carol Baker of Nashville, Tennessee and JoAnn Rhodes of Bridgewater, Virginia. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ted Whitacre; and three sisters, Charity Alger, Olive Peters, and Wilda Rohrer. Friends may call 2 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, and after the service at Goshen City Church of the Brethren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August, 15, 2009, at Goshen City Church of the Brethren with Pastor Bev Weaver officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Sugar Grove Cemetery, Sugar Grove, West Virginia. Memorial contributions may be made to Goshen City Church of the Brethren.
