Myrna Joy Rarick, 89, Goshen, passed away at her home on Tuesday, June 10, surrounded by her family.
She was born on February 22, 1936, in Plymouth, to Donald Sheets and Florence (Wiser) Zittlaw. She married Lowell Rarick on July 18, 1958, and he passed away on October 27, 2020.
Surviving are children Lisa (Matt) Bixel, Bremen, Jenny (Daryl) Pannabecker, Leo, David Rarick, Sellersburg, Megan (Brent) Clodgo, Carmel, and Paige (Susan) Rarick, Fernandina Beach, Florida; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and brother, Bill (Sally) Sheets, Elkhart.
Myrna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Roger Sheets, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Beverly and Robert Cotherman.
Myrna received her undergraduate degree from Ball State University, and then her Master’s degree from IUSB in Special Education. She taught English and Special Education at Elkhart schools from 1987-1999, and then in the Bremen school district from 1999-2016.
Mrs. Rarick enjoyed flowers, gardening, and reading in her spare time. She loved going to her grandchildren’s sporting events, and was a member of the Nappanee Missionary Church, where she helped lead a woman’s bible study. She graded papers for prisoners up until her passing. Myrna was also a huge Ohio State Buckeyes fan.
Visitation will take place on Friday, June 13, from 4 p.m. until the 5 p.m. funeral service at Nappanee Missionary Church. Pastor Jason Rohde will officiate. Cremation will follow the service and burial will be in Bremen Cemetery at a later date. A livestream link will be provided for the service, and can be found at www.nmc.church/funeral.
