Myra Carolyn Christensen

Myra Carolyn Christensen, 83, of Mashantucket, Connecticut, died Saturday, June 30, 2007, at Mary Elizabeth Nursing Home in Mystic, Connecticut, after a long battle with cancer.   She was born in Groton Bank, Connecticut on February 27, 1924, to John and Jennie (Williams) George.  She married Parley P. Christensen of June 27, 1944.  He died May 30, 1982.   A member of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, Mrs. Christensen, was a member of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Elders Council and Peacemakers.  She was also a member of the National Campers and Hikers Association.   During World War II, she worked as a welder at Electric Boat in Groton, Connecticut.  She retired from Syndicate Store Fixtures.   She is survived by a daughter, Joyce M. Walker; two sons, Thomas A. and John H. Christensen; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.   She was preceded in death by her husband, Parley and a sister, Mildred Holder.   Friends will be received 9 to 12 on Monday, July 9, at the Mashantucket Pequot Spiritual Center in Connecticut.   A 12, noon, funeral service will be conducted at Mashantucket Pequot Spiritual Center on Monday, July 9, 2007.   A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 12, 2007, at Rice Cemetery, Elkhart.  Pastor Gregg Lanzen of the First Baptist Church, Goshen will officiate.   Memorials may be given to Mashantucket Pequot Spiritual Center Building Fund or American Cancer Society.
