Miriam E. Kesler Hartman, 88, of Osceola, died early Tuesday morning, July 9, 2013 at her home. She was born in April of 1925 in Noble County, to Kenneth W. and Maurine (Holman) Carpenter. On April 5, 1942 she married Benjamin E. Kesler in Shipshewana. He died on April 14, 1981. She later married Arthur P. Hartman on August 12, 1982. He died on June 16, 2005. She is survived by a daughter, Connie (David) Runnels, of Osceola; six sons, James Kesler, of New Hartford, New York, Kenneth Kesler, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Richard Kesler, of Goshen, Steven Kesler, of Nappanee, Stanley Kesler, of Indiana, Pennsylvania, Dennis Kesler, of Coldwater, Michigan; two step-daughters, Ila Faye (Dan) Stump, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Julia (James) Norton, of Goshen; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grand children; two sisters, Barbara Jewett, of Goshen, Verda (Kenneth) Lorenz, of Greentown; and a brother, Charles A. Carpenter, of White Pigeon, Michigan. She was preceded in death by a step-son, Scotson Hartman; and a brother, W. Dail Carpenter. Miriam started working in food service at Goshen College. She later worked for many years at Goshen Hospital before her retirement. She was a member of Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church. Friends may call Friday, July 12, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2013 funeral service, all at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. Pastor Harold Knight will officiate. Burial will follow at West Goshen Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church Deacon Fund.
