Milo D. Stalter, 97, died Friday morning, March 23, 2012 at the Gables at Greencroft. He was born on February 20, 1915, in Chenoa, IL., to the late Daniel and Alice (Miller) Stalter. Mr. Stalter grew up in Flanagan, IL, he later settled in Ohio where he spent 41 years, and in 1988 he moved to Goshen. On June 6, 1943 he married Lois M. Wingard in Johnstown, PA. She preceded him in death on September 21, 2003. In 2004 he married Mable Hawkins Reed, she preceded him in death in February 2006. Mr. Stalter is survived by two daughters, Sandra (Gilbert) Gingerich, Parnell, IA, Linda (Jim) Butti, Scottdale, PA; one sister, Virginia Kreider, Goshen; six grandchildren, Jon (Cindy) Gingerich, Stephen (Susanna Funk) Gingerich, Lori (Tony) Roetlin, Christina (Phil) Castrofilippo, Gail Butti and fiancé Doug Peterson, Michael (Erin) Butti; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Carl Stalter; three sisters, Gladys Reedy, Ferne Yordy, Marjorie Summer; and four brothers, Irvin, Lloyd, Wilbert, and Orval Stalter. Mr. Stalter was a member of East Goshen Mennonite Church, and an associate member of Bethel Mennonite Church, Wadsworth, Ohio. During World War II, he spent five years in Civilian Public Service. A 1934 graduate of Flanagan High School in IL., Mr. Stalter attended Goshen College from 1939-1940. He also graduated from Akron School of Practical Nursing in 1963 and worked as a nurse for four years. Mr. Stalter worked as a carpenter and home builder for many years in Wadsworth, OH. Friends may call from 9:45-11 am, Tuesday, March 27 at the Meetinghouse at Greencroft Healthcare, Goshen, where an 11 am funeral service will be held. Pastors Steve Slagel and Merle Hostetler, East Goshen Mennonite Church, will officiate. Friends may also call on Wednesday, March 28 at Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, Wadsworth, Ohio. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wadsworth, Ohio, on Wednesday, March 28. Memorial contributions may be made to Mennonite Central Committee or Goshen College Student Aid Fund.
