Mildred Elizabeth Elder, 94, of Goshen, died Thursday evening, July 30, 2009, at Goshen General Hospital. She had been in failing health for the past two years. She was born in Millersburg, on September 26, 1914, to William G. and Mabel B. (Rohrer) Vance. She married Harvey Oscar Elder, Sr., on May 1, 1943 in Des Moines, Iowa. He preceded her in death on February 3, 1959. A lifelong resident of Elkhart County, Mrs. Elder worked as a clerk typist for Penn Controls from 1958 to 1972 and then for Elkhart County Health Department from 1972 to 1982. A 1932 graduate of Millersburg High School, Mrs. Elder was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Millersburg, where she had played the organ for 65 years. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter 397, Goshen, where she had served as a past Worthy Matron. She is survived by a step-son, Harvey O. (Bonnie) Elder, Jr. of Goshen; two granddaughters; a sister, Naomi Grissom of Goshen; a half sister, Lina Belle (G.B.) Hoogenboom of Goshen; and a half brother, Charles R. (Dorothy) Vance of Goshen. She was preceded in death by her husband and two half brothers, Henry and Kenneth Vance. Friends may call 12:30 to 1:00 p.m., Monday, August 3, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a 1:00 p.m., funeral service will be conducted. Pastor Burt Pauluhn of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Millersburg, will officiate. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Millersburg.
