Mildred L. Elam

Mildred L. Elam, 88, of Berrien Springs, Michigan, and formerly of Goshen, died Friday morning, January 16, 2009, at Old Farm Living Center in Berrien Springs. She was born in Toluca, Illinois, on February 2, 1920, to Carl and Elsie (Harms) Arndt.  She married Dennis W. Elam, Jr. on November 26, 1938, in St. Louis, Missouri.  He died October 12, 1979. Mrs. Elam worked for over 34 years at Caterpillarin Peoria, Illinois, where she was in international payroll for foreign trade.  She was a member of Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church. She is survived by a daughter, Janet (Edwin C.) Moore of Goshen; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Etta Plank and Linda (Robert) Knebel, both of Mulberry Grove, Illinois,  and Elsie (Vernon) Ewers of Peoria, Illinois; a brother, Rev. Laverne (Margie) Arndt of Decatur, Illinois; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Arndt of Macon, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband; and two brothers, Carl and George Arndt. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, January 22, and one hour prior to the service on Friday, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A 1:30 p.m., Friday, January 23, 2009, funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  Rev. Marvin Engbrecht and Rev. Bill Richardson will officiate. Burial will be in West Goshen Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church or OMS Missionary Society, Greenwood, Indiana.
