Miguel Navarro Colmenero, 73, of Goshen, died Sunday, December 18, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born September 1, 1949 in San Gaspar de los Reyes, Jalisco, Mexico to Julio and Dionicia (Colmenero) Navarro.
He married Rosa Guadalupe Chavez in Chicago, Illinois.
She survives along with six children, Miguel Navarro Quintero of Mexico; Miguel Julio Navarro of Goshen; Carlos (Alicia) Navarro of Florence, Italy; Ramon Navarro of Goshen; Julieta (Rigoberto Jr.) Carvajal of Goshen; and Fabian Navarro of Goshen; 10 grandchildren and a brother, Ramon Navarro of Oakland, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Maria Auxilio Navarro Colmenero.
Mr. Navarro, along with his wife, were pioneers of businesses dedicated to the Hispanic Community in Northern Indiana and southwest Michigan, always encouraging other Hispanic entrepreneurs. He was owner of La Chiquita Supermarkets, Mi Casita Restaurants, and La Chiquita Western Wear. Miguel and his wife started their business selling the basics door to door, until opening their first brick and mortar store, at their home’s standalone garage in Nappanee, Indiana.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home with a rosary and eulogy beginning at 6:30 p.m. There will be visitation Wednesday from 9 until the 10 a.m. funeral mass at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery, Goshen.
Memorial donations may be given to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church or teleton.
