Michael "Mike" W. Johnson, 50, of Goshen, died Friday night at IU Health Goshen Hospital after a yearlong courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Waukegan, Illinois on May 15, 1960, to Gerald and LaRue (Fricker) Johnson of Bloomington, Minnesota. He married Kay Lynn (Schantzen) on June 25, 1983 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. She survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Nicole Johnson of West Lafayette; a son, Ryan Johnson at home; a sister, Tami Johnson of Bloomington, Minnesota; and two brothers, Bruce (Diana) Johnson and Kris Johnson, both of Daytona Beach, Florida. A 1978 graduate of Lincoln High School, he also graduated from Northland Community College and Minnesota State University, Moorhead, Minnesota. A Goshen resident since 1989, Mr. Johnson worked at KMC Controls in New Paris as a molding department manager. He was an avid car enthusiast who participated in many demolition derbies and he treasured his '57 Chevrolet. He also enjoyed hunting, golfing and spending time with his family. Friends may call 3 to 4 and 5 to 6 p.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a 4:00 p.m. memorial service will be conducted. Pastor John Hickey of Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate.
