Michael Paul Hershey, 59, of Cassopolis, Michigan, passed away at his home March 20, 2019.
Mass will be held at St. Jude’s Catholic Church, 19704 Johnson Road, South Bend, Indiana 46614 on May 11, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a 12:30 p.m., celebration of his life to be held at his home, 65341 North Drive, Cassopolis.
Michael was born in Greenville Ohio, son of Paul Bernard Hershey and Shirley DeAnna Hughes-Hershey on Nov. 29, 1959.
He is survived by his former wife, Deborah Hershey Soldenwagner, Brooksville, Florida; step-son, Scott A. Conway, Manassas, Virginia; sister, Deborah (Jeff) Hershey-Miller, Mishawaka, Indiana; brother, Mark Alan (Ruby) Hershey, Cookville Tennessee; his caregivers, Deanna Ratliff, nieces, Tabitha and Tara Darland, Goshen Indiana, and Darren Neer Cassopolis, and 16 nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Greenville High School and went on to ITT Technical, Dayton, Ohio, followed by further education in Germany for Reutlinger Manufacturing. While in Germany for two years, he travelled Europe extensively, learning the language and using it to this day.
Michael enjoyed motocross, cross country skiing, hunting, woodworking and house remodeling. He worked for Chrysler Toledo machining plant, Perrysburg, Ohio, in various management positions until he retired in June 1995 after a traumatic motorcycle accident. Every day was a new experience for Michael. He enjoyed spending time with family, friends and all his pets; loved to experience new things; recalled his years campaigning for Nixon, and loved to play chess.
A memorial mass will be conducted Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Jude's Catholic Church, 19704 Johnson Road, South Bend, IN 46614.
A Celebration of Life will follow, starting at 12:30 p.m. at his home, 65341 North Drive, Cassopolis, MI 49031.
