Michael P. Bowen, 45, of Elkhart, died at his home late Saturday afternoon, July 7, 2012, from natural causes. He was born April 28, 1967 in Goshen to the late Burthel R. Bowen and Marjorie (Tyson) Rider. He is survived by his mother and step-father, Marjorie and Bruce Rider, Goshen; two sisters, Connie Massengale and Brenda Bowen, both of Goshen; a brother, Oral Bowen, Bristol; and a step-brother, John Rider, Goshen. He was preceded in death by his father. A 1985 graduate of Goshen High School, Michael served with the US Navy from 1985-89. He received the Good Conduct Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Overseas Service Ribbon and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon while serving as a fireman on the USS John F. Kennedy and in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He had worked at Dometic and enjoyed building with Lego's. He loved ships and boats. Family and friends will meet at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 11, 2012, for a graveside service at Oakridge Cemetery with Pastor Jason Kincaid, First Assembly Church of God, officiating.
