Mervin Miller, 88, died on September 4, 2025, at Greencroft Healthcare.
He was born September 2, 1937, in Millersburg, Ohio, to Eli and Marie (Schmucker) Miller.
Mervin married Sue Ann Fahnestock on September 20, 1958, in Manheim, Pennsylvania.
She survives, along with children Thomas (Sonya) Miller, Middlebury, Rufus (Jeanette) Miller, Harrisonburg, VA, Sharla Meyer, Goshen, Marlene (Joseph) Zedek, Pittsburgh, PA, Darlene (Owen) Sommers, Elizabethtown, PA, and Mervin (Mindy) Miller, Jr., Goshen; 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; sisters Florence Wickey, MI, Marjorie Yoder, GA, and brothers, Edward Miller, IN, and David Miller, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 siblings.
For 45 years, Mervin's calling as a pastor was the heartbeat of his life, a journey that began at Lake Bethel Mennonite and continued through his final chapter of dedicated interim ministry. Yet, his service knew no bounds of a church wall. As a committed Gideon and a faithful volunteer in prison ministry, he lived out his profound passion for serving others, carrying his message of hope and fellowship into the entire community. Mervin possessed the rare gift of making everyone feel seen and valued; he truly never met a stranger.
Above all, Mervin was a devoted family man. His love and dedication to his wife, children, and grandchildren were the cornerstone of his life, and his greatest pride and joy were found in their time together.
A man of remarkable curiosity and passion, he also found joy beyond his ministry. He found freedom in the skies as a pilot of small planes and peace in nature while fishing and camping. He took deep satisfaction in the rhythms of small farm life and, in his later years, discovered a profound love for the quiet creativity of woodworking. His hands, which once guided planes, tilled soil, and comforted his congregation, mastered the art of crafting beautiful, lasting pieces—each one a testament to his patience, skill, and love for creating. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, adventure, cherished handmade treasures, and a lifetime of wonderful stories.
Visitation will take place on Monday, September 8, from 9-11 a.m. at Clinton Frame Church, with the funeral service following at 11:30 a.m. Rev. Ron Roth and Pastor Amos Yoder will officiate.
Burial will follow at Clinton Frame Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Camp Amigo.
